Rivalry Week

I’m a huge sports fan. This weekend has been tagged “rivalry week” in college football. Classic match ups are taking place today. These are battles steeped in tradition and in many cases will make or break a teams season. At the end of the day there will be both winners and losers. Both will have fought hard but only one will come out on top and be victorious.
If you are a Christian you also have a rival that will constantly be in a position to try to defeat you. I Peter 5:8 says, Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. The devil, much like an opponent in a rivalry game, will study your actions, know your weaknesses and develop a strategy to exploit those weaknesses to bring you to an ultimate defeat.
The good news is that the Bible tells us that where we are weak He is strong. God has a game plan for each of us that will lead us to victory. His son Jesus defeated death, hell, the grave and Satan himself on the cross. As a result we can be confident that, “no weapon formed against us will prosper”. We can know that victory will also be ours. It doesn’t mean that the battle won’t be waged. But it does mean that if we put our hope and trust in God’s plan we will ultimately experience victory.
Isn’t it good to know with complete confidence that our rivalry game has a certain outcome. We just need to stick to God’s game plan and allow Him to be our coach and give us direction.
And think about this. We can sometimes complain about the stuggles we face but what games our talked about the most…those that required little effort or those that were hard fought but spectacular events took place to bring us to victory. God is a miracle working God and He is waiting for us to put our complete trust in Him and let Him lead us to victory.
Put your trust in God, His plan and celebrate the victory that is yours.
